Dominco Nadal

Domenico Nadal, alias Rocky Valdez, was executed in the Nevada State Prison gas chamber on January 17, 1939 for murdering Justo Urrutia.  This was the first use in Nevada of an electrocardiograph machine to confirm the death of an executed prisoner.  Nadal, convicted in Elko County on November 1, 1938, was a native of Italy who came to the United States in 1907.  In 1934 he arrived in Nevada, where he founds jobs in construction and ranching in northern Elko County.  While working with three other ranch hands on June 14, 1938, Nadal shot Urrutia several times before killing him with a shot to the head.  There was no apparent provocation and no motive was provided by Nadal.
