 Domingo Echaverria

Domingo Echaverria was executed at the Nevada State Prison in Carson City on April 13, 1953.  He was convicted of the murder of Elizabeth Catlett, in Humboldt County on September 23, 1951. Witnesses were quoted as stating “he has a violent temper, is mean and has no regard or consideration for personal safety of his fellow human beings.”  He was imprisoned earlier at the Nevada State Prison for assault with a deadly weapon. Echaverria had mental health problems and was hospitalized in Winnemucca where he became angry at Mrs. Catlett for opening a window.  He removed a pipe from the bathroom and beat her to death. Born in Viscaya, Spain, in either 1893 or 1895 (several dates are provided in his prison file), Echaverria's occupation was listed as sheepherder.
