Nevada 125th Anniversary Commission PDF Print

Administrative History

In 1989, the Nevada Legislature passed AB 409, which created the Nevada 125th Anniversary Commission. According to the legislation the Commission's purpose was to organize and support the celebration of the 125th anniversary of Nevada's statehood, and encourage cities and counties to do the same.

Commission activities included a competition for a logo design and motto, which were also used as a commemorative license plate. The commission awarded grants to sixty public agencies, non-profit groups, and individuals for projects that promoted the goals of the celebration. Special emphasis was placed on statewide projects and geographical distribution of funds, on projects with matching funds, and those that had lasting value. A representative number of cultural programs and events were also funded. After all obligations were met, the remaining funds were granted to the Nevada Division of Forestry for statewide tree planting.
