John Henry Kinkead 1879-1882 PDF Print

A native of Somerset County Pennsylvania, John Kinkead was born on December 10, 1826. He came to Carson City in 1859 to establish a branch of his father-in-law's mercantile firm. He served as Nevada Territorial Treasurer before becoming Nevada's third governor. In 1884 he was appointed the first governor of the District of Alaska.  One year later he returned to Carson City where he lived until his death on August 15, 1904.
