Carson County, Utah Territory
County Court, 1855-1861
The County Court consisted of the Probate Court Judge and two selectmen and functioned like a county commission or board of supervisors. The court received petitions regarding and made decisions about land, water, and timber rights; and roads (toll, wagon, bridges, and gates). In addition to determining the location of county roads, this court also defined and named school districts.
NOTE: Two volumes have been transcribed by Robert W. Ellison who generously allowed the Archives to add them to this webpage. These are literal transcriptions containing the spelling, punctuation, and grammar of the original record keepers. Mr. Ellison is a Carson Valley historian and author of Territorial Lawmen of Nevada, Vol. 1; Long Beard: Warren Wasson Nevada Pioneer, Indian Agent, U.S. Marshall, Inventor & Enigma; and First Impressions: The Trail Through Carson Valley, 1848-1852.
