Thayne Archibald was executed at the Nevada State Prison on August 23, 1961. He was convicted of killing Albert Lawrence Waters on August 26, 1959. Archibald had a long criminal record and had been released from the Oregon State Prison three months before he drove to Livermore, California, where he robbed Albert Waters. After the robbery he forced Waters into his car and drove him to Painted Rock, just east of Sparks, Nevada.  On a ledge above the Truckee River, Archibald shot Waters at close range. After more service station holdups, Archibald was apprehended in Baker, Oregon when his automobile was unable to leave the scene of a crime due to generator trouble. A Utah native, Archibald was twenty-two at the time of his death.
