Thayne Archibald was executed at the Nevada State Prison on August 23, 1961. He was convicted for the crime of murder. Archibald was a native of Utah and at the time of his death was 22 years old. Archibald was convicted of killing Albert Lawrence Waters on August 26, 1959. Archibald had a long criminal record, and had been in the Utah Industrial School for five years. He then spent time at the Oregon State Penitentiary. Three months after his release from the Oregon State Prison he drove into a service station in Livermore, California. At Livermore Archibald robbed Waters and then forced him into Archibald's car. They then drove to east of Sparks, Nevada at a place called Painted Rock. There Archibald forced Waters to walk to a rocky peak overlooking the Truckee River. Archibald then shot Waters at close range. Archibald was apprehended in Baker, Oregon where he was involved in more service station holdups. He was taken into custody when his automobile developed generator trouble and was unable to leave the scene.
