BEATTY LOW-LEVEL NUCLEAR WASTE DUMP RECORDS 1958 -1996; bulk 1962-1996 79 cu. ft.
 The records of the Beatty Low-Level Nuclear Waste Dump (hereafter referred to as Beatty) were created by the Radiological Health Services of the Nevada Division of Health, Department of Human Resources; and the two Beatty operators/contractors: Nuclear Engineering Company (NECO); and U.S. Ecology Company.
In general, the records document the licensing of Beatty operators; monitoring of operations, including creators and shippers of nuclear waste; closure and long-term care of the dump; agreements with the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission; interstate compacts with other nuclear waste disposal sites; and radiological emergency response plans and procedures.
More particularly, the records consist of 30 cubic feet of administrative records and 49 cubic feet of shipment manifests and nuclear waste burial records. The records remain in the order in which they were received by the Nevada State Archives and are almost entirely open, the exceptions being documents marked as "proprietary" by the private companies that issued them, and health-related records of employees and nearby residents. Some visitor applications are partially restricted because they include Social Security numbers.
The administrative records consist of the following:
-License applications, renewal applications and associated documents; and license revocation records,
-Facilities lease documents,
-Site operations manuals, including facility standards manuals,
-Quality assurance plans,
-Closure (permanent, of the waste dump) and long-term maintenance plans,
-Groundwater, soil, air, equipment, and facilities monitoring test results,
-Compliance inspection reports,
-Burial reports (summarizing quantities of waste material accepted each month),
-Geotechnical reports,
-Reports on exploratory drilling, boring, and monitoring of well installations,
-Reports of "incidents," including theft of contaminated material from Beatty, leakage of trailers hauling nuclear waste in Nevada, accidental uncovering of buried waste containers, etc.,
-General correspondence with contractors, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, and other nuclear waste burial facilities,
-Meeting minutes and correspondence of the Rocky Mountain Compact of nuclear waste disposal facilities,
-Agreements with the Nuclear Regulatory Commission,
-Milestone criteria and certificates of compliance (standards of disposal logistics that waste creators had to meet before their materials would be accepted at Beatty).
The largest group of records in this collection consists of shipping manifests and burial records. The manifests document who shipped what materials and how. Burial records document name of nuclear waste producer, name of shipper, type and quantity of material, and burial location within the Beatty dump facility. These records are arranged chronologically.
