All Data

These population figures were taken from original source material in hard copy, of the volumes of the Decennial Censuses in the Nevada State Library, by Mona Reno, Nevada State Data Center Librarian. These data are an update and edit of a Nevada Historical Society publication "Population of Nevada Counties & Communities 1860-1980" by Waller H. Reed, 1984.

Place names are as written in these volumes. Sometimes these look like typographical errors; such as Jarbidge and Jarbridge, Schurz and Shurz. Spellings are as printed, no assumptions as to spelling have been made, since names change through time. Clark and Esmeralda Counties both number and name their precincts and townships. In this case these places are listed twice; in the county name and in the individual name given to the area.

Only five currently active towns have the same name as in 1860: Carson City, Genoa, Gold Hill, Silver City, Virginia City. Designations for places change from precincts to townships to census designated places; change from town or city, and back again; the county a named place is in changes when the county boundaries change. Sometimes the same place name is used in more than one county.

This information is completely in the public domain.
